Rabbit Hunting Facts

June 21, 2011

Comments Off

Most people view rabbit hunting as somewhat of an unnatural and unnecessary activity. However, this sport dates back as one of the popular sports in the past decades. Hunting rabbits demand talent as well as patience and although it isn’t a requirement to join this kind of activity, rabbit hunting may offer a bit of enjoyment.

Most people choose to hunt rabbits with a dog. This is because using a dog can help bring the rabbit out into the open or can help draw the hunter towards the area in which the rabbits are more prolific. A dog can also serve as a great companion to hunting, enabling the hunter to actually have someone to talk to instead of the cold steel of the Remington rifle. Still, some people choose to hunt without a furry friend, making for a different hunting experience. When people hunt for rabbits without a dog, it is important to learn the traits and factors involved with rabbits. The hunter must virtually become the rabbit; learning the rabbits pathways and food stops are vitally important to a successful rabbit hunt, so thinking like a rabbit is integral to the success of the hunt. Of course, thinking like a rabbit may tell you that killing these furry little friends for sport isn’t such a great idea. If that happens, ignore those facts and focus in on your goal of bagging a fluffy bunny.

The best time to go rabbit hunting is during the first days of the spring where it is usually warm. You will usually see the rabbits out on the open and enjoying the sun. When compared to the winter season, it is easier to spot rabbits during spring since they are open and more noticeable to the human eye. When winter comes, these intelligent creatures use the environment to cover up their scent from great smelling dogs. When tracking down rabbits, you should be aware of the path they commonly move in which is from left to right. However, don’t assume this and just shoot the whole field like you’re on a warpath. This only means that you can predict the movement of the rabbit through observing the repetitive steps.

Most hunters often move too fast and product too much sound when tracking down rabbits. Basically, the best way to catch a rabbit is through careful yet aggressive movements, tracking the rabbit in a stealthy kind of way before moving in for the kill.

On the summary, the most useful strategy to do is the stop and go strategy which as its name suggests, slowly stepping forward the rabbit with soundless and soft steps as you approach the target.

Some Tips For Deciding on the Right Items For You Camping Trip

June 16, 2011

Comments Off

Some camping gear can be sacrificed on the way or left behind if you so desire. But there are certain pieces of equipment that you are going to want to have with you regardless of what happens along the way. Two of these items are the sleeping bag and the tent.

Someone new to camping might say that they are all the same and not to spend too much time worrying about which one you get. But a more experienced camper knows how important it is to make the right decisions.

So when you start making decisions, be careful to choose the right one. One of the factors you will want to consider is the comfort versus weight ratio.

You are going to want to be warm at night but you are not going to want to carry excess weight around with you. So it is important to try to find out what types of conditions you will be facing on your trip.

After you figure out what type of weather to expect you can better gauge what type of bag to go with. Down is always a good option as it is light but warm.

And once you decide on a sleeping bag then you will turn your attention to a tent. The same general rules apply insofar as you will often be trading off weight for protection.

In both cases you will want to work out how many people intend to make use of the gear. The more people, the larger the size that you will want to have.

When it’s warmer you can go for a lighter option and sacrifice some warmth. In winter months you may have to go with heavier options if you want to remain comfortable.

So once you figure out what you are going to have to be prepared for then you can start choosing the appropriate equipment. The first step is the most important so spend some time figuring it out before you buy.

Golfing in Northern California: The Seven Best Courses

June 14, 2011

Comments Off

Northern California houses some of the best golf courses in the world. This is more the case than anything in the Monterey Peninsula, which happens to boast four of the top seven golf courses in the upper part of the state. While some of the courses might be pretty pricey, like Pebble Beach and Spyglass, others are very reasonably priced for the average golfer. All-in-all, the courses placed in the next few paragraphs are places that you need to get out to at some stage in your life.

While making this decision isn’t absolute and can vary based upon personal preference, I believe the selection below encompass what every golfer deems “the perfect course.” So, without further ado, the following is my selection of the top golf courses in northern California:

1. Pebble Beach Golf Links – Pebble Beach, CA

The iconic Pebble Beach isn’t just considered to be one of the greatest destinations to golf in all of California, but also as one of the best courses to play in the world. In fact, it had been the first public course chosen as the #1 course in the world by Golf Digest. The majestic course sits directly on the shore and gives breathtaking views of Carmel Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

Designed in 1919 by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant, Pebble Beach has hosted the U.S. Open 5 different times in 1972, 1982, 1992, 2000 and 2010.

2. Spyglass Hill Golf Course – Pebble Beach, CA

Spyglass, nicknamed “the Glass,” was designed by the well-known Robert Trent Jones, Sr. in 1966 and has stunning views of the Pacific Ocean on its initial 5 holes. This is the second of four courses on this list on the Moneterey Peninsual.

The course is so widely recognized for its superb style and design and beauty, that Golf Digest ranked it 5th on “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses.” Spyglass is also amongst the courses in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am rotation.

3. Poppy Hills – Pebble Beach, CA

This tree-lined golf course is the third course listed in my choice of the seven best golf courses in northern California found in the Pebble Beach region. Although it doesn’t have the ocean views of some of it’s Monterey Peninsual cousins, it’s tree-lined fairways set the scene for this remarkably constructed course.

With it’s large number of dog-leg fairways, Poppy Hills was graded among the finest courses in northern California as well as in the top 20 courses in all of California.

4. Coyote Creek Golf Club – San Jose, CA

The Coyote Creek Golf Club is the only Jack Nicklaus signature golf course within the bay area and it is the most popular spot to play for all of the area sports celebrities from teams like the 49′ers and Giants. Its immaculate design and superb layout was acknowledged in Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” and was presented with a rating of 4.5 stars.

5. TPC Harding – San Francisco, CA

After a very long stint of not being a major course and some necessary redevelopment, TPC Harding is yet again a PGA Tour Tournament Players Club course. Harding Park is the most recognized golfing location within the San Francisco city limits and is very affordable to San Francisco and Bay Area inhabitants.

The course was opened up in 1925 and was home to the 2009 Presidential Cup and the 2010/2011 Charles Schwab Cup Championship.

6. Winchester Country Club – Meadow Vista, CA

Hidden in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada’s in Meadow Vista, this exlcusive Championship northern California golf course was the very last course made by the prominent father-son duo of Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and Jr. The course was considered to be The Best Residential Golf Course in America by Golf Weekly.

7. Monterey Pines Golf Course – Monterey, CA

The last choice in my list of the seven best golf courses in northern California is also the 4th course based in the Monterey area. Monterey Pines was initially intended as a 9-hole course by Robert Muir Graves in 1963. The back 9 was added in 1972 and the course was newly designed in 2009 by Marc Messier.

Nicknamed the “Navy Course,” Monterey Pines is taken care of and managed by the Navy Golf Program. This course is the excellent golfing destination for beginning golfers and experienced golfers alike. It is hard enough to work on your game and enjoyable enough to enjoy a full round of 18.

There are many excellent golfing opportunities in northern California, and the above mentioned are some of the finest. Whether you’re a dedicated golfer, or somebody that just loves getting out there and hitting the links, these courses provide a wonderful experience.

A Short History Of Hot Tubs

May 21, 2011

Comments Off

Hot tubs, also referred to as Jacuzzis and spas, are medium or large pools that are filled with water which is heated up with a natural gas, solar, or electric heater. A hot tub is usually designed to be kept outside and is generally used for hydrotherapy, soaking, and relaxing. Due to the fact that warm water is often a breeding ground for many kinds of dangerous organisms, treating the water and sanitizing the tub regularly is very important.

Any historian will agree that heated waters were first used back in the year two thousand B. C. In ancient Egypt. Back then, naturally heated water was used for therapeutic reasons as it was thought to possess healing properties. The world’s first spa’s remains have been traced back to the year six hundred B. C. And were made usually out of big cauldrons and the waters were heated by placing fire heated stones in it.

A few decades later, primitive spas and tubs began to appear in ancient Japan and Finland where they are still popular today. Their large complexes were considered to be very important social centers and usually contained private washing quarters, massage parlors, steam rooms, and rooms and rooms and hot tubs.

By the early nineteenth century, the hot tub’s popularity and usage had made its way to America and Western Europe. There, frequenting the spas was considered a major part of a wealthy and gentile lifestyle. With time, the bathing houses evolved and began to include things like casinos, shopping malls, and even hotels.

In the early 1940s, smaller types of hot tubs started appearing in modern California homes. They were sort of like of the bigger bath centers but were instead smaller and made out of giant oak barrels and other wooden vats. These early items were inexpensively made and were often subject to leaks. In the early 1960s, builders began making better spas out of smoked ceder wood and natural gas heaters. These products looked like the spas of today and had better water pipes that helped the sanitation.

The spa’s popularity fastly started to spread throughout the United States and were built in a way that allowed the average middle class citizen purchase one for their very own. The tubs proved to be extremely beneficial for users with arthritis or injured muscles and proved to be extremely relaxing for users looking to relax at the end of a crazy day.

Eventually, the products began being fitted and manufactured with fiberglass shells out of a necessity to prevent the wooden boxes from leaking and warping. The shells not only prevented leaks, they allowed manufacturers to mold ergonomic seating and ensure the cleanliness of the heated water.

To ensure your own tub’s safety, you will have to do regular water changes and cleanings as well. To prevent any waterborne diseases from spreading, you will have to maintain the water chemistry and pH balance of the item with special chemicals and testing kits.

Serving the areas of Toronto, Mississauga, Woodbridge and Vaughan, our furniture store is your solution for outdoor patio furniture with a collection of excellent quality wicker furniture Toronto and hot tub Toronto.

Details To Take Into Account Prior To Installing Swimming Pool Enclosures

May 9, 2011

Comments Off

The benefits of the installation of pool enclosures are many. They start with the amount of money saved to heat the water and the increased security and safety they provide. An enclosure will also allow for year round swimming no matter what the weather conditions are. Enclosures help reduce water evaporation, reduce the amount of chemicals needed, and simplifies then maintenance.

Several things should be taken into consideration before buying and installing a system. You will want to think about which type of system you want, one that is trackless or one that is tracked. The convenience of a tracked system is that it takes only one person to open and close it while the trackless will need two people on either side to push or pull evenly and simultaneously to make certain it does not go offline.

It is also important to consider the location of your pool. If it is in a more open area that might be subject it to high winds, you will want to think about an enclosure that is low profile or one that is held securely to the ground. If it is located in an area that is more sheltered wind is not that great of an issue.

Paying attention the the surrounding grounds is also important. If the pool has a raised lip around it, this must be considered when measuring. Also, if the adjacent area is limited, the enclosure should be installed as close as it is possible to the edge of the pool staying clear of the lip.

It is important to examine the condition of the surrounding. The ground around the pool needs to be somewhat level and smooth to the system will work efficiently and easily. It is especially important to consider the surrounding area if the enclosure is to be trackless.

It is less important for the area to be even when a tracked system is installed. However, an area that has ground that is very uneven will make it necessary to take steps to even out the ground to ensure that the enclosure works properly. Also evaluate how much space there is between the edge of the pool and the system for accessing the filters and to clean. These access points should be considered when measuring for installation, especially if a tracked system is being considered.

Also consider if there is enough room in the area for delivery of the enclosure and the amount of room available for installation. Think about whether it will be installed for you or you will be able to install it yourself. Keep in mind that the larger systems usually come pre assembled and need more space than the low profile enclosures.

Before buying a system, it is important to check with your local planning office to see if there are any permits that are needed for installing pool enclosures. Finally, you will consider the cost of a low profile or a larger system. Do some comparison shopping to find the best price for the system that will meet your needs.

For both residential and commercial clients, custom built structures open many different spaces up to the sun, air and stars. These include pool enclosures and operable skylights for pools, atriums, patios, water park design, anywhere that a truly open space is desired.

How Do I Start a Fire When it’s Raining?

April 26, 2011

Comments Off

A camping trip can be spoiled by rainy or damp weather. However, with a few helpful tips, you don’t have to let unexpected weather ruin your fun. As long as you have the knowledge and proper materials, you can create a campfire without too much effort.

You can still enjoy a campfire during a rain storm as long as you come up with a backup plan. This may seem impossible when all of your kindling and campfire supplies are wet, but with a little extra thought beforehand, you will be able to build a quality fire.

Bring along a tarp just in case. During a rainstorm, you can tie the tarp over an area where you would like to build your fire. It must be high enough so that the flame and sparks from the fire are unable to reach it. This will allow you to keep a fire going throughout the night even in heavy rains. Next, you will need to find enough dry kindling to get your fire started, and dry logs to keep it going for an extended period of time.

Pack a tarp with you in case of inclement weather. You can use it to hang over a spot where you will start your fire. Make sure that the tarp is high enough that it doesn’t run any risk of catching on fire from flames or sparks. To begin your campfire, place tinder below kindling in the fire pit. You should also surround the kindling with tinder. Next, light the tinder or, if you have a charcloth, place it on the kindling.

Continue to add kindling as the fire builds up. Then, gradually add dry sticks and logs. Every once in a while, gently blow into the tinder to strengthen the flames. If you have charcloth, light it and place it into the center of the fire. All you need is a small piece of charcloth to intensify the fire. By following all of these steps, you will be able to build a large campfire even in the rainiest conditions and your trip will still be very enjoyable.
