Work Smarter: Tips To Decrease Horse Stall Maintanence Time

June 21, 2010

Comments Off

Anyone who has horses knows that cleaning stalls takes the longest out of any barn chore to complete. Are you looking to cut down your hours of cleaning and increase your quality time with your pet? Here are a few tips to decrease horse stall maintanence time!

Set your box up to where it is most convenient to keep disinfected. One of the best ways to do this is to install rubber mats. This is great whether you have a concrete or dirt or clay base. A mat is porous, provides great traction, is durable, and really cuts down on the labor involved in going through stalls. They are also great for your horse’s legs if he is in a lot, and is extremely cost-effective.

Your choice of bedding is also important. Certain materials are more likely to soak up urine and are more simple to pick through. For instance, shavings are great because they absorb wetness well, but are still easy to sift through. Pellets and sawdust are both also good choices in terms of making the area easier to keep maintained while also doing its job well for your equine. Either of these beddings combine well with horse mats.

Obviously when you go into your facility to do chores, you want it to go by quickly. This means having the right tools as much as having the right stall design! Use picks that have the prongs spaced out properly for the type of horses you have. Pony-sized picks are available so you can grab their smaller-sized poop with ease! Have lightweight wheelbarrows that are easier to maneuver. If you use muck tubs, buy a cart for them so you can get them around easier. The smallest things add up in determining how long you are working!

Keeping a box sanitary is also extremely important to your equine friend’s health. Standing in a built-up space can have very adverse effects. Respiratory, leg, and skin problems can arise quickly. In addition, it becomes a breeding ground for both flies and mosquitoes. Definitely something you want to avoid!

One of the biggest detriments to not keeping a proper sanitized area is the increased likelihood of thrush in your horses! This is a terrible fungal infection that eats away at the foot, and it is caused by too much trapped moisture. It creates a horrible stench and is very uncomfortable for your mount. If left untreated, you could be looking at a lame animal. Avoid this altogether by keeping his stall clean. Use the tips mentioned to cut down on your effort spent doing that, this way you are more likely to do it right!

Finally, employing some of this knowledge to your barn will save you a lot in the end. You are looking at less cost to maintain. It can drastically lessen either your own time and effort or that of your hired labor, which also puts more money back in your pocket! After all, in the horse world, extra cash is never bad!

There you go! Start using a few of these tips to decrease horse stall maintanence time today! Spend less time working and more time riding!

Looking for cost-effective stall flooring for your horses? These environmentally-friendly horse mats may be just what you need. Rubber stall flooring provides comfortable support for your horses, and helps to relieve joint pressure by absorbing shocks.

Cincinnati Wins Low Scoring NFL Preseason Battle At New England

June 20, 2010

When the biggest play of a NFL football game is an extra point, there’s a good chance it was a dull contest. The big play of the game? A point after touchdown by the Bengals backup kicker, none other than wide receiver Chad Ochocinco. Ochocinco’s PAT would prove to be the margin of victory as Cincinnati beat New England 7-6.

After the game, the always entertaining Chad Ochocinco was in rare form talking about his love for European soccer:

“‘Esteban’ Ochocinco is back, the most interesting footballer in the world. Everyone has to remember, I’ve always said that soccer is my No. 1 sport. I think Ronaldinho would be proud of me right now.”

To punctuate his fondness for the sport known as football in the rest of the world, Ochocinco whipped out his iPhone to display a picture of him with former England captain David Beckham. He then continued his comedy routine:

“Soccer’s my first love, Kicking’s easy … like riding a bike. I can kick them from 50, 60 yards, left or right hash mark. … I kicked all through high school.”

Ochocinco was pressed into service as a placekicker when Shane Graham complained of a sore groin in pregame warm-ups. Rather than take any chances, head coach Marvin Lewis let Ochocinco take his place. Ochocinco also played a few series at his usual position, catching three passes for 69 yards.

Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker, who was pressed into emergency service as a placekicker while with the Miami Dolphins, wasnt buying Ochocincos talk about kicking being easy:

“It’s not easy. To kick that is something, and he got real good height on it.”

The Patriots could only manage two FGs, while Cincinnati scored their only touchdown on JT OSullivans 24 yard pass to Chris Henry. That set up Ochocincos picture perfect extra point. OSullivan was also amused, but emphasized that his receivers athletic versatility is no joke:

“Nothing surprises me. All joking aside, he still kicked the ball through the uprights and it ended up winning the game. Some people might think its funny, but it’s important.”

Cincinnati will kick off their NFL regular season schedule on Sunday, September 13th as they host the Denver Broncos. The Patriots will get their campaign underway on Monday, September 14th as they play the Buffalo Bills at home.

Pickup Games As A Worldwide Experience

Some people call themselves cultured if they are well traveled. Others call themselves cultured if they are history majors, or have done in-depth studying on the traditions and pasts of different countries. Still others think that being cultured can only be attained through living within the actual cultures themselves.

While there are thousands of interesting facts and tidbits of information people can learn from books and travel excursions, true understanding of a new culture only comes through immersion. It is only through walking the streets, shopping in the back-alley markets, eating the local foods, and forming lasting friendships, that a person will ever truly become cultured. Perhaps one of the best, and yet rarely considered, methods of learning about new cultures is through pickup games.

Sports are an integral part of most country. For some countries, the most popular sport is soccer, for others, basketball, cricket, rugby, or hockey. Any country that has a sport that is easy to form pick up games provides a golden opportunity for foreigners. What game is played, the way in which it is played, and the attitudes of the players all shed light on a country’s underlying beliefs and attitudes.

The first thing one can learn about a culture can be determined by how easy it is for a foreigner to join a game. If the players are friendly and welcoming, generally that culture is a welcoming one too. If they refuse to allow someone new to play or do so only grudging, it might be because they see foreigners as an inconvenience or clumsy. If the person trying to join is female, it is possible that culturally it is inappropriate for mixed gendered games to occur. Another thing foreigners can learn about a culture comes from the rules used in the game. Is there someone that makes all the calls or does no one ever call anything? If there is someone that keeps score and enforces the rules, that culture might be one in which following authorities and rules is important. One more fascinating factor to consider is the players themselves. Do the players share the ball with newcomers or do they ignore them? Some cultures are naturally more willing to share and have more faith in people. Often times, these slight details can be learned from a simple pickup game.

While one might learn a lot about a culture from a sports game, there are still some things that take time to learn about. Once such example is security. Do the locals have home security systems? While home security is easily accessible to Americans for cheap prices, many foreign countries do not have this luxury. Security is something that may not be important to the locals. Maybe they have guards around their home, maybe they have a high-rise apartment making it difficult to break-in, and maybe they have nothing worth stealing. Yet, most Americans are not faced with those same circumstances. Americans typically live in a house, don’t have guards, but do have lots of valuables. It may be understandable and culturally acceptable not to have security systems in some countries, but in America it is much more important.

Chiefs Quarterback Leonard “Len” Dawson

June 18, 2010

Comments Off

Kansas City fans have cheered on their Chiefs for nearly half a century now. The team had its origins in Dallas where it was first called the Texans, but that three year tenure ended when it moved to its present location in 1963. Although they were one of the original teams in the old AFL, they are now a proud member of the American Football Conference in the NFL, and are located in the Leagues AFC West. Fans of the Chiefs know that their team has seen its share of superstar players since it first arrived in the city. They also know that Lenny Dawson will always be remembered as one of the absolute greatest of all.

As a collegiate star

As the signal caller for the Boilermakers, Len seemed a natural fit. The truth is that he almost went to Ohio State instead, only choosing Purdue because of his affinity for the team’s coach and his dislike of the Ohio State split-T. The Boilermakers’ moving pocket offense would prove to be perfect for the mobile Dawson, which makes his decision to attend the school seem to be nothing short of genius. As he led the Boilermakers for his three seasons as a starter, he dominated the passing categories in the Big Ten by amassing in excess of three thousand total yards through the air.

Slow start in the NFL

Dawson’s entry into the NFL was much-heralded. Despite that fact, his experience with the Steelers was less than satisfactory, and even after being traded to Cleveland he found himself unable to acquire the starting job at quarterback. In truth, he had very stiff competition at both locations. In 1962, he signed with the then-Dallas Texans and began to find his stride. His first season with the team resulted in him being the touchdown and yard per attempt leader, as well as the MVP of the AFL. When the team moved in 1963 to Kansas City, Dawson went with them.

Chief of Chiefs

As a Chief, Len got his old accuracy back. This was important, because the Chiefs were using that same mobile pocket system that he had experienced in college. He soon became the AFL’s perennial passing leader, with his 1966 season being so successful that his team was invited to participate in the AFL-NFL matchup that s now known as Super Bowl I. Against the then-dynasty of Lombardi, Starr, and the rest of the Packers, there was little that the upstart Chiefs could do to stop the Packers from winning the game going away. Nevertheless, Dawson was still in competent form during a losing effort, as he compiled more than 200 yards passing and one touchdown.

Winning it all

Three years later, Dawson once again took his team all the way to the AFL title and into Super Bowl IV. This time, there was no Bart Starr or Green Bay Packers to stop him and he instead led the Chiefs to a victory over the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings. It would be the Chiefs’ one and only Super Bowl trophy. Dawson retired from the game in 1975, and was formally inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1987. To Chiefs fans everywhere, he will always be remembered as one of the first men to show the world that the AFL could compete on the same stage with the NFL and win.

Funding An Online US Poker Site

June 17, 2010

Comments Off

For poker players who live in the United States Of America, the amount of online poker US rooms is restricted but there are still many great-accredited poker rooms in which one can lawfully play a game of poker. Nevertheless the media attention given to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act might signify otherwise, countless USA online poker alternatives are yet available.

Aced, Absolute, Bodog, Full Tilt, Carbon, Doyle’s Room, Ultimate Bet, Cake, Sportsbook, PlayersOnly, Poker Stars, PDC, and Poker Host are a few of the web sites at which residents of the United States, or everyone accessing the internet from inside of the United States, can legitimately play online poker games.

One of the main issues that resulted from the passage of this Act was how to deposit money lawfully to fund internet accounts for poker games. Fortunately this issue has been resolved by many of the internet poker sites and deposit alternatives are now available that were not in place in the recent past. The most successful USA deposit option for playing online poker in the US is credit cards but many online US poker web sites are still deemed as gambling transactions by credit card companies and banks. However, there are now many poker web sites available internet which accept all major credit cards and debit cards.

Another option for reasonably simple deposit into an internet poker site is the ePassporte provider. This company is now acknowledged by most of the internet poker US websites. It requires the person to link a checking account to their ePassporte account in order to make deposits and withdrawals between numerous internet sites. Either the person can send the balance back to the checking account they registered, or they can get an ATM card with which to withdraw cash directly.

Because it is an important part of online poker US, various ways of funding poker-playing accounts are being explored by the sites where these games are played. Many online poker sites have their own payment services that are usually simple and can be established in a matter of minutes. With the addition of these ways with which to fund an account, poker playing is becoming more accessible. Online poker US does not have to be a challenge to access. The challenge is now where it ought to be, in the game play itself, rather than in the matter of finding and funding an online poker US game.

The Mapes Hotel: Reno’s Lost Art Deco Jewel

June 16, 2010

Comments Off

The Mapes Hotel in Reno, Nevada met its demise on Superbowl Sunday of 2000 when 75 pounds of explosives packed inside the structure’s support columns brought it to the ground. The controlled demolition came despite years of effort by a number of groups within the community to preserve the building with lawsuits, redevelopment proposals, and grass roots lobbying efforts. The National Trust for Historic Preservation even took up the cause, challenging the destruction in a lawsuit that eventually reached the Nevada Supreme Court.

While the logic and necessity of demolishing the Mapes is very questionable, one thing that is certain is that the hotel was an important part of Northern Nevada history. The opening of the Mapes in’47 ushered in a new era in casino gambling, and changed the economy and way of life in Nevada forever. The Mapes was actually the first property in the country to combine a hotel, casino and live entertainment under the same roof. It also became the hotel of choice for celebrities staying in Northern Nevada. Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe stayed at The Mapes during the filming of ‘The Misfits’. Joseph McCarthy, America’s famed anti-Communist crusader, admitted to a reporter over cocktails in the Mapes Lounge that he really didn’t have a list of Communists in the US despite his frequent and vitriolic insistence to the contrary.

During the ‘Rat Pack’ era of the 50′s and 60′s it became along with the Cal-Neva Lodge in Lake Tahoe the place to be seen in Northern Nevada. The 11th floor, window walled Sky Room Lounge hosted performances by a roster of entertainment legends including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin, Louis Prima, Keely Smith, Milton Berle and Mae West. Downtown Reno struggled during the’60′s and 70′s but the Mapes continued to prosper. The hotel finally closed in’82, due to financial problems experienced by the Mapes Family brought about by their other Northern Nevada casino holdings.

Reno has yet to experience the sort of growth that has been seen in Southern Nevada, and for that reason the destruction of the Mapes is more open to debate than the hotel demolitions to the south. Even the demolition of The Sands–perhaps the most historically significant casino in the state–is hard to argue against given the inability of such a small property to compete in the current Las Vegas marketplace and in light of the value of the mid-strip real estate.

This is not the case in Reno, where land and buildings for development in virtually every casino area are abundant. The official reason that the Mapes had to come down was that the city needed the land–which sits along the banks of the Truckee River–to expand its riverside district of art galleries, restaurants and shops. The revitalization of downtown Reno is definitely needed and a legitimate goal, but at the same time it is hard to think that the Mapes was a barrier to this. Indeed, a number of proposals for redevelopment including office space, artists lofts and upscale senior housing would have probably served to enhance the livability of the downtown area. For whatever reason, the City Redevelopment Authority wouldn’t approve any of the proposals and the fate of the Mapes was sealed.

The behavior of the City Redevelopment Authority throughout the process has come into question. Overlooking the Truckee River, the hotel was perfectly placed between the downtown casino area and the riverfront district. In’96, the city purchased the htoel and began accepting proposals for redevelopment. Despite receiving a number of proposals that made sense both in terms of their financial workability and positive impact on the downtown area, the City Redevelopment Authority nixed all of them and insisted that the hotel be razed.

Following the 2000 demolition, the lot remained vacant for over a year until a temporary ice skating rink was hastily constructed the following winter. The property has been improved and the rink is now permanent which, while not in itself a bad use for the land, further calls into question the efficacy of demolishing the structure. It would appear that the city had no clue what to do with the land, but for whatever reason wanted the building brought down. This has led to all sorts of conspiracy theories, from the City Development Agency having financial incentive to raze the hotel to rumors that the building was haunted and was destroyed to keep the Reno area from being overrun with paranormal activity. Whatever the reason for the decision, the city of Reno has lost a beautiful art deco treasure that played a significant part in the economic growth of the state.

The Technomarine ceramic watches are known by the world to be extravagant and a symbol of wealth. No matter if someone is watch savvy or not, Technomarines were made to be noticed. These watches attract attention with their vibrant colors, glistening crystals, and timeless design. With all these components combining to create a stunning watch, you can be sure that whenever you have a Technomarine watch on your wrist, it will not go unnoticed.

Technomarine watches are interesting. These watches break out of the traditional Swiss design in terms of subtlety. These watches have designs that are loud and breaks the tradition of what a Swiss watch should be. Technomarine watches are purposely built as Swiss watches with some attitude to them. You would find yourself getting lured in with the crystal glass they use or perhaps the chronograph the watch has.

Technomarine has become a popular name in the corporate world. Most of the sales of these watches are made right in the United States, satisfactorily representing the drive of the American entrepreneur. Among CEO’s, businessmen, and other professionals, these watches have become a statement of success. When someone walks by with a Technomarine on their wrist, it’s exceedingly hard not to take note. The resilience and persistence famous among American entrepreneurs only further testifies to the dependability and reliability of these watches.

When it comes to projecting an image, Technomarines deliver, and they deliver hard. The sorts of people who wear these watches carry a different sort of mind frame, one that glorifies risk and taking chances to see results. They aren’t the common watch investors. A relationship is established between watch and owner, reflecting a lifetime of hard work.

Without a doubt, Technomarine watches are characterized by the radical design. The watch company has an age old tradition for producing quality watch making with jewelry. Most of the mens luxury watch models feature diamond bezels and various precious metals. The fine Swiss design ensures that the inner mechanics deliver the high accuracy expected of a Swiss watch. They use state of the art materials. The company takes a triple take when it comes to producing a Technomarine watch.

Technomarine watches are big investments, but there is more to a watch than just the price. Luxury watches are made to last for a lifetime, which is longer than any car, computer, or yacht can promise. Not only are these watches capable tools, they are also visual representations of the owner’s personality.

Techno Marine watch have gone further than any other Swiss watch design. You can easily find fake Rolex mens luxury watch or their replicas, but it is difficult to find replica Technomarine watches.

Japan’s Pro Wrestling Icon: Mitsuharu Misawa

June 14, 2010

Comments Off

Mitsuharu Misawa died in Hiroshima, Japan earlier this year less than a week before his 47th birthday. He was in a tag team match for his Pro Wrestling NOAH promotion with Go Shiozaki against Bison Smith and Akitoshi Saito. Saito hit a back suplex on Misawa, which appeared to knock him unconscious. Medical staff attempted to revive him in the ring, but when CPR failed he was taken to a hospital by ambulance. Initial reports in the Japanese media suggest that he was pronounced dead at the hospital, but a number of eyewitness accounts have speculated that he may have died in the ring.

There’s at least a small bit of solace in the fact that he died in the ring doing what he loved, and what he did better than just about anyone on the planet. Misawa’s last moments were spent working the kind of brutally stiff, athletically realistic match that got a generation hooked on Japanese wrestling.

A top level amateur wrestler in high school, his skill gained the attention of All Japan Pro Wrestling president Shohei Giant Baba. Three years after his pro debut, he got his first big break in’84 when he was chosen as the second Tiger Mask replacing Satoru Sayama. In’90, he had his longtime friend and rival Toshiaki Kawada unmask him.

Misawa would wrestle as himself from then on, and become an even bigger star in the process. In June,’90 he became one of the top stars in All Japan Pro Wrestling when he defeated Jumbo Tsuruta. He soon faced Triple Crown Champion Stan Hansen in an unsuccessful challenge for the title, and would become arguably the biggest native star in Japanese pro wrestling for the next decade.

Hed have legendary battles against Kawada, Hansen, Kenta Kobashi, Jun Akiyama and Steve Dr. Death Williams in singles competition. Hed also become a force on the tag team scene along with Kawada facing Williams and Terry Gordy along with Tsuruta and Akira Taue. Misawa would continue as a mainstay in AJPW until the early part of this decade. After the death of Giant Baba, he repeatedly bumped heads with his widow over the companys direction and in 2000 quit to establish Pro Wrestling NOAH. He would serve as the companys president while wrestling a full time schedule until his untimely death.

Japanese pro wrestling served as an introduction for many American fans into shoot fight sports and MMA. Before the Internet, fans would trade videotapes to stay up on the latest matches from Japan and along with Jushin Thunder Liger and The Great Muta Keiji Mutoh it safe to say that Misawa is one of the wrestlers most responsible for getting a generation of American fans hooked on the product.

The BP Oil Leak And All That There Is To Correct The Damage

June 13, 2010

Comments Off

Many of us have been glued to the news. The reason for this is because of the recent happenings with the BP oil leak. Many of you are looking at what they are doing and wondering just how many have been affected. Well, there have been many. There are many who put the blame on someone else. There are those who blame the Government. Here is what you should know about.

There are many people who have been affected by this oil leak that keeps spewing oil day by day. For starters, there are the crew members who lost their lives. They didn’t come home and therefore, their family will have to go on without them. It’s important that you remember the lives that they have lost and if you believe in the power of prayer, you should send a prayer for those who mourn those lives lost.

Then there are those who use the ocean water and the beaches as their means of profit. There are many who live near the Gulf Coast and cannot wait until the summer months when there are tourists as it means money in their bank accounts. However, without the water being pristine and clear as well as inviting people in, they don’t make as much money. Some of those businesses were family owned. Now, they worry about what their children will do. One season can make or break you.

Then there are those who have been affected in a bigger way. These are those who lost loved ones who were a part of that crew. They can’t get them back and for that, we give our condolences. However, there is a bigger issue and many are seeing that issue. The issue at hand is that the oil leak has to be stopped.

Many people wonder who is to blame. Most of them blame the CEO of BP as they should. They are angry that more things aren’t being done to try to stop this oil leak. BP is telling everyone that they are going to pay for everything. So, they are taking ownership of this. Yet, others blame President Obama saying that there has to be more that he can do.

However, time is something they need, but time is something that many for us don’t want to give. Therefore, many are blaming the Government for not intervening. Among those is President Obama. Everyone is just so frustrated, they want to blame anyone and everyone until something is done. Many are left wondering what it is they can do to help.

So, what can you do? There is a method that BP could try to stop this oil leak. This would be to use the Spider Web Blanket. However, many say that they don’t want to do this, but those who have studied this say it will work. They are asking you to talk to the government and show your support of this. This could do something great for the leak and make a lot of people and animals alike very happy.

This has effected everyone. Now, it’s time that you learn what you can do to help. Some vets who work with zoo animals have already packed their bags to go help these animals. Others are wondering how to donate to those who have lost their business. The most you can do is keep your ears open and offer the support you can while BP fixes this.

Are you following the latest documentation about the oil leak in the golf? Well, if you are, you need to see what we got to tell you about it. We know about their new solution to stop the oil from leaking even more.

Saints Top Dolphins To Remain Undefeated

June 12, 2010

Comments Off

With an offense that can strike as quickly as the New Orleans Saints’, they’re never out of a game. The Miami Dolphins found that out the hard way on Sunday as the Saints came roaring back from a 21 point deficit to win going away 46-34. Drew Brees threw for 298 yards and a touchdowns, though gave up three interceptions. Miami dropped to 2-4 on the year.

Adding insult to injury for NFL betting enthusiasts who backed Miami as +6 home underdogs, the Saints continued their rampage against the pointspread with a late game interception return for a touchdown to cover. New Orleans is 6-0 against the number this season, while Miami dropped to 2-4 against the spread. The 80 combined points sailed OVER the posted total of 47′. It was the fourth OVER in six games this season for both teams.

After the game, Brees said that his team never lost confidence:

“There was no doubt on our sideline we would come back and win. They had given us their best shot, and we had played about as bad as we could play. All we had to do was string together a few drives and gain the momentum back. We knew it was going to happen, and it did.”

Following a rushing touchdown that gave his team their first lead of the game in the fourth quarter, Brees dunked the football over the goal post crossbar:

“There are times in the game when a team just needs an emotional lift. I felt like I had to do something to get everybody hyped. The first thing that came to mind was to dunk it.”

Saints’ linebacker Scott Shanle suggested that the game could portent good things to come:

“It can be a season-defining win. This was a test we hadn’t faced yet, and we couldn’t be happier with the way we responded.”

A dejected Ricky Williams explained how his team had lost:

“This was our game to win. We fought and we fought. They just fought harder at the end.”

Dolphins’ QB Vonte Davis said the defense was aware that with Brees in the game even a 21 point lead was tenuous at best:

“With Drew Brees, it’s like the score is 0-0. We knew they would come back and that it would be a tough game.”

The Saints will now host the Atlanta Falcons next Monday night. New Orleans is a -9 home favorite with the total set at 53′. They’ll then face two struggling teams, taking on the Carolina Panthers at home the following Sunday and playing against the Rams at St. Louis on November 15. The Dolphins will play on the road against the New York Jets this Sunday, with Miami a +3′ road underdog and the total set at 40′. They’ll play at New England the following Sunday before returning home on November 15 to take on the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
