Montreal Dominates Swooning New York Islanders

May 31, 2010

The Montreal Canadiens have gotten off to a slow start this season, and entered Thursday night’s game against the New York Islanders having gone thirteen games without a win in regulation dating back to last season. Apparently, all they needed to cure their ails was a team that was struggling more than they are. The Habs jumped on them early scoring three goals in the first two periods en route to a 5-1 victory at the Bell Centre. Montreal improved to 4-5-0 with the victory while the Islanders dropped to 1-4-3.

NHL hockey betting devotees who weren’t scared away by the -180 home favorite price tag on Montreal cashed their tickets with the Canadiens’ big win. It was the sixth win for the Habs in their last eight meetings with the Islanders. The six goals scored just managed to go OVER the posted total of 5′. The Canadiens went OVER for only the fourth time in nine games, while the Islanders have gone OVER in five of their nine contests.

The struggling Montreal offense finally woke up, helped by a 43-22 shots on goal advantage. When Montreal opened a 2-0 lead in the first period it marked the first time this season that they’d led by more than a goal, a fact that surprised left winger Mike Cammalleri:

“We’re making it hard on ourselves. That’s something — I didn’t realize that until right now but that makes sense. Every game’s been so tight, and it’s important to try and win in tight games and find ways to win those games but at the same time you can’t do that 82 times a year and then however many games in the playoffs, so it was important to get out to a little bit of a lead and hang on to one tonight.”

Montreal goaltender Jaroslav Halek played well in relief of starter Carey Price, but lost his shutout bid when he misplayed a puck just seconds into the final period. Cammalleri described a conversation he had with Halek after the game:

“After the game I went to give him a hug and he said, ‘I don’t like shutouts. And I said, ‘Well, you better like shutouts!’ But he played great when we needed him tonight, made some solid saves, and we’ll let that one go.”

Islanders’ coach Scott Gordon admitted that his team made it easy for the Habs’ to dominate:

“We were a pretty easy team to play against. Defensively we were on our heels because of all our turnovers and it wasn’t just in one area, it was coming out of our zone, it was situations where we had full control of the puck and we’re not making plays. It’s probably the worst that I’ve ever seen it tonight and it’s something that we’ve got to get better at.”

Montreal plays their next two games at home, hosting the New York Rangers on Saturday night and welcoming the Islanders back to the Bell Centre for another game next Monday night. The Islanders have a Saturday night home game against the Washington Capitals before their return engagement with Montreal. They’ll then return home to play their regional rivals the New York Rangers on Wednesday.

If you are, then you might be interested in purchasing and carrying Arkansas University personal bank checks. They are a great way of letting everyone know what your favorite school is and where your loyalty lies.

Even better is the fact that when you get your checks online, they’re even less expensive than if you had purchased them at your local bank.

The University of Arkansas is a public school located in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It was founded in 1871 and is known for its programs in agriculture, creative writing, architecture, engineering, and business.

The University of Arkansas’s mascot is the Razorback, a kind of wild boar. The sports’ teams are regularly simply referred to as the “Hogs.” The sports teams compete in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in Division I of the NCAA. Only 4 other schools have won more national titles than the Razorbacks.

The football team calls the Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium “home.” The team has won 9 SWC titles and 3 SEC Western Division titles. From 1963 until 1966, they won 22 straight games.

In addition, the men’s basketball team has been to 6 Final Fours. “Street and Smith” magazine called them the 8th best program in history. In 1994, they earned the National Championship title.

Not to be outdone, the baseball team went to the 2004 and 2009 College World Series and their Baum Stadium was called the best collegiate ballpark in American by “Baseball America” magazine.

The men’s track and field teams are the most successful program in NCAA history. The program itself has received 42 national titles in Track & Field and Cross Country. Several of their athletes have gone on to compete in the Olympics.

If you would like to carry University of Arkansas checks, then there are essentially two great designs to pick from.

The Arkansas Logo checks are one of the selections that you have available to you. These are gray and come with an image of the Razorback hog outlined in the center of them. You can also find matching address labels, a debit wallet, and a matching checkbook cover to go with your checks, too.

For the really dedicated University of Arkansas enthusiasts, there is also the University of Arkansas #1 Fan check design series. These are for those supporters that don’t care to scream at the coaches and opposing fans, paint their faces, and trek hundreds of miles for an away game.

Bear in mind that if you get your checks online, you can save as much as 50% off the total price of your checks. When you use a dependable website, not only will you save on the cost, but you’ll most likely have a wider assortment of checks to select from. You will never have to settle for plain dull costly bank checks from your local bank again!

Tips To Help You Locate And Buy Popular Sports Tickets Online

May 29, 2010

Comments Off

Across the globe, regardless of political creed or religion, one of the many things that can bring people together is sports. People are passionate about their teams, whether it is hockey in Canada or Sweden or football in the United Kingdom or baseball in United States or Japan. Entire populations are drawn to fields and stadiums where they are able to cheer, live, and dream through the game and the athletes competing. But this fantasy often comes with a price, as billions of dollars are spent each year on sports tickets.

Charging admission fees is nothing new in the world of sports. It is even possible that the Romans paid a fee to visit the Coliseum to watch chariot racing and gladiators fighting. Some events were worthy of attracting a larger crowd, and it probably cost more to get through the gates as well. The same is certainly true today – the more popular the event, the higher the price of the ticket.

It is becoming more and more difficult to find tickets for major sporting events such as the World Cup or Super Bowl. Many people have turned to online vendors in an attempt to locate tickets. While making tickets available for purchase via the internet has provided the general population with another outlet to find tickets, it has also created some problems.

There are many websites online that have tough to get sporting tickets available. Sometimes, they are not the original distributors of the tickets. There are companies that buy big blocks of tickets from the original vendor in order to later sell them at inflated prices.

Some of these site operate legally, and rely on computer programs to purchase as many tickets as they can the second they become available. This completely cleans out the available inventory and limits the possibility of the general public being able to buy the tickets at face value.

Even with the computer programs, it is still easiest to purchase sports tickets online. However, there are many things that should be considered before making a purchase. The first is to ensure that you are buying from a secure website. If it is a site that is running on a secure server, the web address will always begin with “https://”. Secondly, make sure that the site has a good reputation by using a search engine to look it up and read reviews and check with the Better Business Bureau to see if there have been any complaints logged. A third thing to look into is if the tickets are returnable or what happens in the event of a cancellation.

More recently, several websites have been created where consumers who have season tickets or who have tickets to a game but are not going to use them can list them for sale and someone else who can use them will buy them. There are also other websites, where people can find tickets for free from people who are not going to be able to use them, usually at the last minute.

Finding sports tickets online is fairly easy, but finding them for a reasonable cost can often times be difficult. It is important to remember the scale of the event they are for and set the expected price accordingly. Certainly, there are times when one can find a deal but it will require a great deal of patience and searching, but it can be done, which will make the event that much more memorable.

You can get great sports tickets fast for your favorite game! Get sports events tickets that will provide you with the best seat in the house today!

Can I Purchase A King James Lakers Jersey Next Year?

May 28, 2010

Everyone keeps asking Lebron James which jersey he will be wearing next season. The best question is what jersey the fans will have on next year? An even better question is what Lebron James jersey will kids wear next season?

There is an open market for Lebron James to choose which team he would like to play for next season in the NBA. There are a handful of teams that have paved the way and freed up money in order to obtain him and pay the large price. The New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets, Chicago Bulls, and Miami Heat all have a fine chance at obtaining Lebron.

There is a number of NBA of teams that are trying to find ways to get Lebron on their team. Most owners and sports writers seem to think that it is all about the almighty dollar. Most people think that the franchise with the most money to offer him will be the winner.

What most fans don’t know about Lebron James is that he wants to win a championship more than money. Every season that finishes with him running off the court in dismay has to be eating away at his heart and mind. Do not be surprised if Lebron James ends up playing on a team that people seem to think is far too out of reach, the Los Angeles lakers.

Think about this, in his career so far, Lebron already has more cash than he can ever spend in his life. He is already loaded with endorsements from Nike, Mcdonalds, and many others. He can always buy a ring whenever he wants, but can he win one?

Think about it, where can Lebron join next season that can virtually guarantee him of being in the finals? Maybe, alongside his idol and veteran guard who wears a Lakers jersey Kobe Bryant. The Lakers can’t afford to pay him what he’s valued at but can they give him what he wants?

After seven years in the NBA, it’s time for Lebron to leave that red and gold Cavaliers jersey behind. He may never get paid as well playing for the Lakers but the Lebron James Lakers Jerseys, shirts, and merchandise will be flying out of stores to make up for it. Other franchises may have an advantage money wise but only the Los Angeles Lakers can offer championship rings.

A Legend Of English Soccer: Sir Bobby Robson

May 27, 2010

Comments Off

One of England’s most beloved sporting figures, Sir Bobby Robson, yielded to his courageous fight with cancer recently at the age of 75. Even the often critical British press had nothing bad to say about the universally respected Robson, headlining their obituaries with adjectives like The Bravest Knight or simply The Legend.

Robinson enjoyed a twenty year career as a player, split between the English Premier League clubs of Fulham and West Brom. He also earned twenty ‘caps’ in International play for England, scoring four goals.

After his retirement in’68 as an active player, he found more fame as a team manager. His guiding hand transformed Ipswich Town from a laughing stock to an EPL powerhouse and he would lead the club for well over a decade. He would also serve as the England National Team manager for 8 years, before ending his career in British football with a stint as manager of Newcastle United that ended in 2004.

Robson earned even more love and admiration from his countrymen due to his public battle with cancer. Although a brain tumor left him partially paralyzed in 2006, he never wavered in his commitment to English football or to raising money and awareness for cancer treatment. After being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2007, he started the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, and raised well over one million pounds for the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre in Newcastle.

Such was the respect for Robson that two other soccer icons not known for seeing eye to eye were quick to pay their respects. Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho gave this tributes shared his thoughts on Robson:

“I wanted to and I will keep with me always the Bobby Robson of every day, a person who had extraordinary passion for life and for football, with an extraordinary enthusiasm. Bobby Robson is one of those people who never die, not so much for what he did in his career, for one victory more or less, but for what he knew to give to those who had, like me, the good fortune to know him and walk by his side. My thoughts and embraces go to all his loved ones.”

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson shared these touching comments:

“In my 23 years working in England there is not a person I would put an inch above him. I was never too big or proud to ask him for advice, which he gave freely and unconditionally. And I’m sure I am speaking for a lot of people when I say that. I mourn the passing of a great friend, a wonderful individual, a tremendous football man and somebody with passion and knowledge of the game that was unsurpassed.”

“His character was hewn out of the coalface; developed by the County Durham mining background that he came from. His parents instilled in him the discipline and standards which forged the character of a colossal human being. He added his own qualities to that which he passed on to his sons. The strength and courage he showed over the past couple of years when battling against his fifth bout of cancer was indescribable. Always a smile, always a friendly word with never a mention of his own problems.”

“The world, not just the football world, will miss him. Let’s hope it won’t be long before another like him turns up because we could never get enough of them.”

Many EPL clubs will honor Robson in some form or another during the upcoming season with a number of more lasting tributes planned. Several statues and other permanent forms of remembrance are reportedly under consideration.

Virginia Tech Earns Hard Fought Victory Over Duke

May 26, 2010

Comments Off

Duke University is far from being a national college football powerhouse, but they’re no longer a team you can take lightly either. #6 ranked Virginia Tech found that out on Saturday, and what they expected to be an easy afternoon became a tightly contested affair. In the end, Virginia Tech prevailed for a 34-26 road victory but not without some anxious moments.

Despite the straight up loss, Duke won where it counted as they rewarded sports players who bet on college football with the ATS victory as +17 home underdogs. Duke evened their mark at 2-2 in their lined games, while the Hokies dropped to 2-3 against the spread.

The Hokies were saved by the career day posted by their quarterback, Tyrod Taylor. Taylor threw for 327 yards on 17 of 22 passing and two touchdown passes. After the game, Taylor modestly downplayed his own impact on the outcome of the game:

“I know we have a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball. It’s just my job to get the ball to them.”

Venerable Tech coach Frank Beamer saw his team defeat Duke for the ninth straight time, but noted:

“I don’t think that’s the old Duke football team.

Blue Devils coach David Cuttcliffe said his team is reaching the point where moral victories dont mean much any more:

“We got close enough in the fourth quarter to go beat a great team. Once you taste that, you like it. I wouldn’t say we spit it out — it wasn’t a choke — but we just didn’t finish.”

Despite getting the win, Hokies coach Beamer was critical of his teams performance:

“Too many penalties and too many long plays. We weren’t as sharp as we would like, but I don’t think it was lack of effort. Part of it was Duke, and part of it was us. … Sometimes I think you’ve just got to win some games that’s not real pretty on the road, and this is probably one of those.”

Still, he praised his team for doing what they needed to do to preserve the victory:

“When we needed to run the football, and we did, and got points, that was critical to this ball game. They were going to take the run away, so you’ve got to be able to throw the ball.”

Virginia Tech will host Boston College next Saturday before traveling to Atlanta the following weekend for a game against Georgia Tech. Duke will play at North Carolina State next Saturday before a bye week. Theyll return to action at home on October 24th against the University of Maryland and play on the road at Virginia the following week.

The Arena Football League Reaches The End Of The Line

May 25, 2010

Comments Off

After canceling their 2009 season, the Arena Football League has shut down entirely and appears headed for bankruptcy. Earlier this week, the league office released a short statement indicated that it had ceased operations because owners were “unable to reach any consensus on restructuring the league over the past eight months.” The leagues statement continued that there are no other viable options available to the league right now.”

Even before the decision was made to cancel the 2009 season this past December, it had been a tumultuous off-season for the Arena Football League. It began with the resignation of long time AFL commissioner David Baker just two days before the Arena Bowl championship game. Though Baker put a positive spin on his resignation saying that he felt it was time, it didn’t exactly send a positive message about the future viability of the league.

In October, the owner of the New Orleans VooDoo announced that the team would cease operations”despite being one of the league leaders in attendance. In announcing that the team would fold, owner Tom Benson (who also owns the NFL Saints) cryptically explained that it was due to circumstances currently affecting the league and the team.”

A dispersal draft to reassign the VooDoo personnel was scheduled and postponed several times amid assurances from the AFL office that rumors of financial instability were unfounded.

The inability to get any consensus on a business model for the league reportedly served as the final nail in the AFLs coffin. A major problem was skyrocketing player salaries, and some sort of compensation system tied to team revenues was a necessity. A bigger schism was left between several factions of owners”primarily drawn along lines of overall wealth.

Despite the demise of the Arena Football League, it wont be the end of the road for the twenty two year old sport. known as The 50 yard indoor war . Arena Football lives on in the AF2 league which, ironically, was originally started as something of a developmental organization for the AFL. The league plays in smaller markets and has a more realistic salary structure. A number of current AFL players”and possibly a couple of AFL franchises”could end up in AF2.

Sail Boating In General: The Basics Of Sail Boating Today

May 24, 2010

Comments Off

Are you looking for a great activity you can enjoy with your entire family? If you are, you should definitely look into sail boating. Sail boating in general is an activity that is not only enjoyable for adults, but it is also enjoyable for children as well. Taking a sailboat out onto a lake or the ocean is definitely a memorable experience for people of all ages.

Before you go sail boating though, you should definitely know a few basic facts that are highly relevant to anyone who is taking a boat out into the world’s open waters today. First off, you will want to learn about the different types of boats that are available to you. Secondly, you should learn about the different areas of the world where you can use a sailboat. Once you know as much as you possibly can know about sailboats, and you know exactly where you would like to take your boat, you should consider purchasing or renting a boat for your personal use.

One of the first aspects of sailing that you should investigate are the types of sailboats that are available. You should also be considering the safety that is provided by each sailboat you come across. It is also a good idea to consider the types of weather conditions you will be sailing in as well. By taking factors such as the area of the world you will be sailing in, the type of weather conditions you will face, and other factors into consideration, you will definitely not only be able to make your sailing excursions fun, but they will also be as safe as they can possibly be as well.

The easiest way to analyze the safety of a boat can be done by assessing the size and the condition of the boat’s materials. If the boat is rotting, or there are other issues with the boat, you may want to think twice before taking your family on a long boating expedition using that particular boat. Once you have found a boat that is of a proper size, and is also in very good condition, you can be positive that you are safe once you go out onto the open waters in your new craft.

While you are shopping for your craft, you should also take into account the type of waters you wish to sail in. By assessing the type of waters you plan on sailing in, you can define the size and the type of boat you should purchase. If you are planning on sailing on a lake, you may want to purchase a different boat than you would purchase if you were planning on sailing on large open oceans.

Once you have purchased the boat that is absolutely perfect for the type of water you wish to sail on, you need to start looking for locations around the world that will be suitable for your expeditions. If you simply want to sail on lakes, you are likely going to want to look for locations that have beautiful scenery. If you are planning on sailing across the oceans though, you are likely going to want to search for locations that not only offer beautiful scenery, but locations that also have interesting and accommodating people as well.

Obviously, there are many different factors of sail boating in general that you need to take into account in order to not only ensure your family’s safety, but you should also be taking these factors into account in order to ensure your expeditions are as pleasant as they can possibly be. As long as you take all of these factors into consideration before you purchase a sailboat, you will definitely have one of the best sailing experiences you can possibly have today.

UFC 102 Highlighted By Couture/Nogueira Bout

May 23, 2010

Comments Off

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira left a lot of questions unanswered in the wake of his UFC 92 loss to Frank Mir. He had been dominated in his defeat to Mir and in the process suffered the first stoppage of his career. After the fight it was revealed that hed suffered from a staph infection during training, severe enough to land him in the hospital for five days. He insisted that the loss was entirely attributable to his illness. At UFC 102 from the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon, Big Nog made a compelling case that his loss to Mir was a definite aberration. Nogueira dominated a determined Randy Couture over three rounds, en route to a unanimous decision victory over the UFC Hall of Famer. Nogueira’s decisive victory culminated the UFC’s first ever event in the Pacific Northwest and after a bit of hand wringing over slow ticket sales the show came off very well on PPV.

Nogueira entered the arena first to his usual entrance music of Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones. He received a respectful welcome from the Rose City crowd, but nothing like the rousing ovation afforded local hero Couture. Couture lived in suburban Gresham, Oregon for a number of years and trained at Team Quest before leaving to start Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas. Hes still a beloved figure in the Portland area, and his wide grin during Bruce Buffers introductions give the impression that he still has a lot of affection for his former hometown.

Despite the lopsided outcome of the fight, The Natural gave his fans plenty to cheer about. Though hes no longer able to outwork opponents and earn victories, hes still an amazing physical specimen for a 46 year old man. He was knocked down twice, and came close to being choked out in each of the three rounds. In the first, he fought off a DArce Choke before Nogueira relented to conserve his energy. In the second, he worked out of a dangerous arm triangle choke and in the final frame withstood a ground and pound beating and a rear naked choke attempt.

Couture in no way embarrassed himself, but he never really threatened Nogueira either. After the fight Nogueira expressed his respect for Couture and appreciation for the Portland fans before politely calling out current heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

Earlier in the event, Thiago Silva demonstrated why hes considered among the most underrated fighters in the UFC as he dismantled Keith Jardine. Silva perfectly countered one of Jardines kicks with a nasty straight right hand. He followed up with a quick ground punching barrage before the referee called a halt to the fight early in the first round.

Why Go For A Private Party Band?

May 22, 2010

Comments Off

You are at one friend’s party. The music is music that you have heard plenty of times before. It is going up the charts, and every pop and alternative station is playing it nonstop. Some people are dancing, but a lot of people are still sitting staring off into space or are talking quietly. Those who are dancing are being a bit awkward, as the music isn’t exactly dance music. No one is all that into it, as they have heard it all before. It is the usual music: it is no private party band.

Now imagine a second scenario. You are dancing, and feeling lots of energy flowing through you. Just about everyone else is dancing as well, and they all seem really happy. You have never heard music exactly like this before. You hear voices from microphones, and the sound of live instruments. You are in the zone with a live band.

Live bands are great for parties, weddings, office functions, etc. Because they are full of life. When people hear live music, played soulfully by people who love music, they often react better to it. It is often more enjoyable to dance to music that is being played in front of oneself than it is to dance to music that comes out of some speakers.

People often like listening to old favorites, but dance song recordings can get old. When one goes to more than one wedding in a short period of time and both weddings use DJs, it is likely that they will hear many of the same songs. And these songs will be the original recordings, so they will be played exactly the same.

Live bands may either be original or they may play other people’s music. Some do both. But when it is your wedding or party you can choose exactly what type of music you want – be it pop or swing. If you have a band rather than a DJ, you can have more control over the type of music played at your party. For instance, if you hire a swing band for dancing, no one will be able to request that new pop dance hit.

Live bands are, by definition, made up of live people, so they can interact with the audience. Some bands encourage audience members to participate, and can joke around with them. DJs can possibly do this, but generally they tend to stay off on the sidelines.

Live bands are also great because when you hire a live band you are supporting several people. Some bands are cover bands and play specifically for functions, while other bands use parties to make it to the next step in their career. By supporting them, you may be supporting their dream.

Thus, live bands are a great choice for private functions. They are not appropriate for every occasion, as they may be somewhat costly. But if you want energy, uniqueness, interaction, and vibrancy, you may want to consider hiring a band for your next function. They may offer a freshness to a boring and stiff function that cannot be found many other places.

Musician Marie Janus is a member of ‘Soul Desire’ featured at the http://www.souldesire.co.uk site. Hiring a specialist Function Band will ensure the success of your event. Find out more about hiring an amazing Private Party Band when you visit this website.
